How did I miss THAT question?
Love the old posts ..
You GOTTA try this:
1 can of Coke
1 cup canned tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup cider vinegar
2 1/2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
1 1/2 tablespoons steak sauce
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1/2 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon dried savory or fresh savory (a handfull - don't chop - use scissor and cut it in!)
1 teaspoon onion powder - or mash a small onion to oblivion and throw it in
1 teaspoon of fresh garlic - use a garlic press - about 3 cloves
1 squirt of tabasco / hot pepper sauce - don't ask me how much that is .. I don't measure .. I squirt ..
Salt and pepper to taste ..
In a large saucepan, mix together the coke, tomato sauce, tomato paste, butter, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, molasses, cider and balsamic vinegars, steak sauce, and mustard. Season with chili powder, savory, onion, garlic, and tabasco sauce, and stir to blend.
Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. About 15 - 20 minutes .. or .. simmer (lowest temp) for as long as you want .. an hour or so more ..
It's sweet, smoky and mild and perfect for ribs or chicken! This is NOT spicy ..
Let's be clear here ..
Cooking is about trying things .. missing an ingredient? .. improvise .. no molasses .. try maple syrup .. hate chili powder? .. use paprika .. no cider vinegar .. use plain vinegar / just less .. no tomato sauce? .. reach for the ketchup .. no mustard? .. what's wrong with you!! LOL .. use the fancy stuff in your fridge .. dijon .. honey mustard etc ..
And finally .. use your fingers .. dip in and taste it .. is it yummy? .. there ya go .. more salt? pepper? etc.. you get the idea ..
just keep tasting ..
