Nice personality - not much of a character actor.
Neither is Lindsay or Lee though.

I'd like him very much, he brings very much to the series, after all he is the boss, a very good working actor, he has a big list of series and movies behing him and he bought the studios for the remake trilogy where he was a co producer executive.

What do you mean by "character actor" Steven? I've always thought of character actors as people who play the eccentric side kick roles - like Wallace Beery, Ernest Borgnine and whoever it was who played April in "In This Corner...Jaime Sommers". Oscar is certainly a lot straighter a character than those guys, but I think he's supposed to be. Is your definition different than mine?

Yup - it is
Taking on a character in its completeness - loosing personal traits -patterns of speech - etc
Kathy Bates and Meryll Streep are good examples.

Gotcha. That's actually a pretty rare trait in an actor - and a really impressive one.

The reason I ask this question is because it strikes me that he veers from really great to not so good, and I wonder why. Is it because he was overworked doing two series? Could he be, well, kind of lazy? Did he just get bored sometimes, facing international crises every day of the week and having to explain the plot to the main characters over and over again?
Has this thought occurred to anyone else?

I noticed that in Season 3, Oscar becomes very underused - and barely features in the later episodes and lost all charcter when he did appear. Until the final episode that is - when he gave an outstanding performance. I think his performance varied depending on wether he had a good part in the episode .
The scene of him telling Jaime that he loves her and his anger when he says:"It's Jaime Sommers - not Janey. Say it - SAY IT!" are two of his best moments in the series.
