Bionics in popular culture
1) How did TBW and the SMDM influence popular culture?
I'm thinking Fembots here.

2) What did the shows take from popular culture?
I'm thinking Bigfoot here.

RE: Bionics in popular culture
There are too many spin-off and spoof ideas that surround Bionics in general to even begin to list them!

Mad Magazine had fun with it, thats for sure

_Mad Magazine_ is an excellent example.

The idea of bionics as portrayed in TBW and the SMDM are ubiquitous in popular culture...I wonder how many examples we could come up with? Just curious. And what does that say about society?

RE: Bionics in popular culture
I was watching re-runs of the sit-com "Just Shoot Me" recently - and two of the episodes had references to Bionic Woman.
One had one of the characters (the slutty one) claim that she used to have an acting career and eventually admit that it consisted of her appearing as a Fembot.
The other was a reference to the Bionic Dog: "If you spend six million on a dog, it should at least be able to talk".
- Surprising that they refer to Season 3!

I was just watching an old rerun of Sandford and Son and Fred didn't want to go out on a blind double date with his son because he wanted to stay home and watch The Six Million Dollar Man.

Okay, the below cartoon is not from the original. However, without the original it would most likely not exist. (That's how I am justifying this post, anyhoo.)

RE: Bionics in popular culture
Bionic star tops bad accent poll

Michelle Ryan has topped a poll of the worst American accents used by British actors in US television series.

She won for her portrayal of the Bionic Woman, while comic Eddie Izzard came second in the survey for his work in The Riches.

Anna Friel's American accent in Pushing Daisies was voted third-worst, ahead of Hugh Laurie in House and then Ian McShane in western drama Deadwood.

More than 3,000 fans voted in the poll, organised by the Radio Times website.

"Just as Dick Van Dyke struggled with his English accent in Mary Poppins, so too are some Brits failing to pull off convincing American accents," said the magazine's online editor, Helen Hackworthy.

Cancelled

Ryan's high-profile US debut in Bionic Woman was cut short earlier this year when NBC axed the show after eight episodes.

She will soon be seen in ITV1's Mister Eleven alongside fellow Briton Sean Maguire - sixth in the poll for his work in comedy series The Class.

Joely Richardson and Louise Lombard came eight and ninth for their accents in Nip/Tuck and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation respectively.

Actor Dominic West rounded off the top 10 for his vocal work in police drama The Wire.
